Description: Halloween 2 VHS 1982 MCA Rainbow Pre 1st Print Gail Piece. Former Movie Theatre Dolby System copy. Halloween 2 played on 1,211 screens. Of those screens a majority of them were larger theaters during primary release in late 1981. Those screens received traditional celluloid reels. Polson, Mt was a very small town in 1981 with a local theatre, Polson Theatre (original tape holder). By the time they were primed to get the movie, it was mid 1982. Scotch, an industry pioneer, struggling with VHS tape cost well over $80 each. They developed high durability “generic” VHS tapes for the rental market to combat the need to replace broken tapes (Google me). In 1982, Scotch along with MCA were preparing for the rental VHS release. Being the VHS tapes were already being produced. Instead of fragile celluloid they sent the remaining theaters yet to receive the movie (and other movies moving forward) generic high durability VHS editions in Dolby Surround System instead of regular stereo. The 1982 copyright edition was released in stereo. Dolby System Stereo and Stereo are different things. In the 1983 copyright edition Dolby was introduced, it also features the Dolby logo on the label instead of box/tape stickers. Feel free to search the active/completed listings. If you look closely, a lot of them are the wrong copyright year tape in the 1982 copyright MCA rainbow box. None are both Dolby and 1982 copyright. Being there was only 1,211 total theaters playing Halloween 2, and the busier theaters getting celluloid reels in 1981, very few theaters received the 1982 copyright VHS editions by default. Making this edition exceedingly rare. With that, this tape was released after traditional Cinema, yet before rental release. Making this a pre first print Dolby System edition of Halloween 2 on VHS. With a total possible print run in the hundreds, this is easily the rarest edition available of Halloween 2. The front edge label has released. It’s held in place with a Polson Theatre label.
