Description: Grape Agate first started appearing for sale around 2016. They were being mined in Mamuju an area near the western coast of Sulawesi, an island of Indonesia. When this material was first introduced everyone quickly mistook it for a type of chalcedony or agate. Further testing showed they were actually quartz, a variety of amethyst. The name Grape Agate, although a misnomer, stuck because they do in fact resemble clusters of lite purple grapes.... but make it sparkly (: This is a beautiful botryoidal grape agate that displays well on both sides. This piece in particular has a lustrous satin appearance. It is 2.3 by 1.7 by 1.5 cm's in size. Locality of this piece: Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province, Sulawesi, Indonesia. Thank you for looking :)
