Description: Grape Agate first started appearing for sale around 2016 at the Tucson Mineral Show. They are being mined in Mamuju, an area near the western coast of Sulawesi; an island off of Indonesia. When this material was first introduced everyone quickly mistook it for a type of chalcedony or agate. Further testing showed they were actually quartz, a variety of amethyst. The name Grape Agate, although a misnomer, stuck because they do in fact resemble clusters of purple grapes.... but make it sparkly (: This is a beautiful botryoidal sparkly grape agate that displays well on both sides. This grape agate cluster in particular has a druzy appearance and a purplish blue color. It is hard to find grape agates as this one that display such a captivating sparkly druzy effect. It is 5.0 by 3.3 by 2.2 cm's in size. Locality of this piece: Mamuju area, Sulawesi Barat Province, Sulawesi, Indonesia. Thank you for looking :)
