The text is a wonderful history of "Gone with the Wind," including the publishing of the classic book by Margaret Mitchell, the process for bring this great story to the screen, the casting of the film, the production which began on January 26, 1939, the film's release, the premiere, the critics reaction and much much more. Each of the main characters is profiled as are the actors who portrayed them. Hattie McDaniel made cinema history as she became the first black performer ever to win an Academy Award. George Reeves went on to fame as television's first Superman before his tragic death in 1957. In addition to the many great color and black and white photos there are full-page color shots (9-1/2" x 12-1/4") of Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, and Leslie Howard and Olivia De Havilland as Ashley Wilkes and Melanie Hamilton. Other excellent photos in this program showcase Margaret Mitchell, Louis B. Mayer, David O. Selznick, George Reeves, Hattie McDaniel, Thomas Mitchell, Ann Rutherford and Evelyn Keyes, Max Steiner (of "King Kong" fame, who composed the memorable musical score) and many others.
