Description: FRENCH GLOVE BOXA charming example of an antique French glove box from the Napoleon III period. The ebonised wooden box is beautifully inlaid with brass stringing to the front and lid of the box with a scrolling brass vacant cartouche to the centre of the lid. Although originally intended to house gloves, the rectangular box is suitable for a variety of purposes.As well as the brass edges and stringing, the box is also profusely inlaid with alternating quatrefoil and roundel shaped inlay.The box was made with attention to detail; the corners are canted and the lid is mildly domed. The front of the box also hinges downward to make access easier.Date: mid 19th Century.Condition: Fair condition. Externally the box is in fair condition with minor wear and losses. A few pieces of brass have been replaced or repaired and the two long inner sections of brass stringing to the lid are missing.
