Description: Early 20th century impasto post-impressionist cityscape, likely New York City, attributed to William Andrew Pogany 1882-1955, listed New York/California/Hungary artist, attributed on old label verso, 14" by 10" oil on artist board, vintage Heydenryk frame, 18 3/4" by 14 3/4". Artist studied in native Hungary at Budapest Technical University, arts schools in Munich and Paris, including Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He moved to London at age 23, then to New York City in 1915. there he was a member of Salmagundi Club, Architectural League, and Beaux-Art Institute of Design; he won a Gold Medal at Panama-Pacific Exposition (San Francisco) 1915. Artist was mostly known as an illustrator, producing works for over 100 books, and a muralist. Condition very good, light surface grime, scattered minute losses that are hard to detect in highly textured paint, minor inpaint to left upper region, frame with slight miter separation of 2 corners.
