Description: This real photo postcard is a portrait of a slim, self possessed young man wearing a bellhop's uniform and knee high boots. Just readable on his cap is "Hot. Stadt Gotha". The Hotel Gotha opened in Chemnitz, Germany in 1851. It changed hands, was torn down and reconstructed in 1902 -the elegant hotel boasted private baths and lifts. It survived until it was bombed in 1945. There's no identifying information on the back of the card, but is a divided back, meaning it must date from 1907 or after. I'm guessing it dates before the start of World War I. The postcard has tiny cracks and creases, especially around the edge, but the image is clear.
