Description: For sale, A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents, in 20 volumes, a complete set, published by the Bureau of National Literature. Gold gilt page edges except for volume 17. This set of hardcover books has different copyright dates, but, I believe that this set is from 1917, mainly because of the design of the title page. Each edition of this set had a different design of the title page, with the 1917 edition being published by the Bureau of National Literature and also because of the vertical bar with stars at the left side of the title page. that design is specific to the 1917 edition. Also note that volume 17 has brown cloth covers instead of the black covers. All volumes are ex-library except for volume XIV and came from the Larkspur Library system. Volume XVII (brown covers) is also ex-library, but from a different library, St. Stephen's Monastery. All of the ex-library volumes have markings that have been blacked out (see photos) and also have the binary library numbers at the bottom of the spine covers. Note that volumes 1-13 have copyright date of 1897, published by James D Richardson, volumes 14-17 have no copyright date, and volumes 19 and 20 have a 1917 copyright date. but, as stated above, I believe this set is from 1917. These books have a few illustrations in each volume. Unless noted below, there is a bit of wear/scuffing to the covers, Moderate edge/corner bumping. Hinges are solid, bindings are tight. Except for the blacked out library markings, no other unwanted writing, notations, or bookplates. No loose or torn pages. There are also blemishes to the inside of the covers where the library pouch was removed.
