Description: US staff & field officers sword and scabbard. This is patterned after the M1850, with US on the guard and the shark/ray skin grip. All the braided wire is there ,the ray skin grip is complete, but showing some wear in spots. Blade is regulation size and has not been cut.Blade is not etched and has a non-stop fuller which would probably make at least the blade a European import, according to all experts who have viewed it. This would have been a private purchase, and the soldier bought what he could afford. There is slight movemrnt to the guard and the original leather washer is not there. The blade is in good shape with some graying from age. It measures 31 inches long. The scabbard is in good shape, showing good use (small dings),but no damage.
