Comparing elbor and diamond grains, it is clear that elbor grains in the whetstone work softer, while not making unwanted scratches on the cutting edge during processing. This is due to the fact that elbor has an octahedron-shaped crystal structure - the number of cutting edges is greater with less sharp angles - this results in softness during processing and wider metal removal. Diamond has a tetrahedron-shaped crystal structure, in which there is a smaller number of cutting edges and sharper crystal angles - which leads to "aggressive" work of the diamond during finishing and further finishing.
