Description: Catalina Pottery made as acquired by Gladding McBean, Los Angeles after 1937. This vintage square vase planter bowl has very unique bumpy turquoise lava glazing, like lemon peel texture glaze, with creamy glossy glazed interior — the rim is white but the interior can appear pale baby blue. Used condition, includes a hairline crack down the side, as pictured and pointed with arrows — maybe repair attempt because interior shows what could be tiny glue drips. Staining horizontal water line from use to interior. 5" x 5" x 4" tall. Signed “S. A.” and stamped with the Catalina Pottery Made in U.S.A. logo but really difficult to make out in the glaze. At first I thought the initials were sharpie marker pen but where signed the glaze has bubbled differently so I do think maybe artist signature or glaze name initials? Really I think this to be a one of a kind or maybe an experimental piece as I have yet to come across this unique textured glaze in any color, or similar artist signed Gladding McBean Franciscan Catalina Pottery. Traditional bright turquoise blue you’ll find in other Catalina pottery. A California estate auction find - see my other items! The crack damage here can be easily overlooked when displayed, this one is for the collector who needs this unique beautifully glazed Los Angeles California USA made pottery. As-is.
