Description: Handmade Miraculous Medal stretch elastic bracelet designed with small 6mm Black Onyx beads and three accented spacer beads. The traditional devotion to Our Lady of Graces is oval-shaped and two-sided and can be paired with a protective 3/4" Italian Horn (Cornicello) charm. Crafted in your choice of either gold plated or silver plated finish. Please read below for the religious and cultural significance of both of these charms. A white Jade bead variation of this bracelet is also available in my shop. Thank you! ------------------------ THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL OF OUR LADY ~ The Miraculous Medal, also known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces, is the devotional medal originated through Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830. Catherine was a seminary sister (a novice French nun) at the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul in Paris, France when she witnessed Marian apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.In describing the original vision, St. Catherine said the Blessed Mother appeared radiant as a sunrise, "in all her perfect beauty." During the apparitions, the Blessed Virgin requested to Catherine, the creation of a medal described to capture her likeness. In the depiction, Mary stands on a dome crushing a serpent beneath her feet. Rays shoot out from Mary's hands, which she told Catherine, "symbolize the graces I shed upon those who ask for them." Words from the vision form an oval frame around her: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." On the reverse side, a cross-and-bar surmounts a large, bold "M". Twelve stars disperse around the perimeter. Two hearts are depicted underneath the "M", the left, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, lapped with a crown of thorns, and the right, The Immaculate Heart of Mary, skewed by a sword. The Chapel of Our Lady of Graces of the Miraculous Medal resides where part of the mother house of the religious congregation Saint Vincent de Paul, in the exact place where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Catherine. In Roman Catholicism, sacramental medals play a crucial part in ones's spiritual life. Medals are worn not as a charms, but as powerful reminders of the supernatural protection and love of the Holy Father, Jesus, the heavenly Mother Mary and the communion of saints. The act of wearing a Catholic medal or gifting it for a Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation allows one to express that faith. Wearing a Catholic medal says “Lord, I am ready to receive your graces”. CORNICELLO / HORN ~ Like all cultures, the peoples of Italy have several superstitious beliefs to protect themselves and their loved ones against danger, misfortune and bad luck. Their most well-known protective symbol is the Italian Horn, which dates back to ancient Roman times, and is still widely used today. The horns ward off the evil eye (malocchio) of devilish envy. By invoking bull-like strength against such evils, the horns bring good luck and good fortune, similar to "touch wood" or "knock wood". Often worn on jewelry, it is also common to see the charm hanging inside a car for protection. Some historians believe it also derives from “cornucopia” -- goat horns filled with gold, precious stones, and products of the earth as symbols of abundance and success, also called the Horn of Plenty. ---------------------------- ♡ All jewelry comes with a burlap jewelry gift pouch and is shipped using Earth-friendly, recycled, environmentally-conscious packing materials. ♡ All bracelets come with instruction tips on how to best care for your stretch bead bracelet. Please note also that photography presents differently on varying devices. ♡ CARE INSTRUCTIONS ♡ Your stretch bracelet is handcrafted to be strong and lasting, but elastic, stones, beads and metal plating are not eternal. Natural wear and tear will also affect your jewelry. By following these simple tips, however, you can maintain your jewelry’s beauty for as long as possible: > DO NOT GET YOUR BRACELET WET ~ Keep your jewelry away from moisture. It is best to remove your bracelet before washing your hands, showering, exercising and swimming since contact with moisture can break down the elastic, ruin finishes and tarnish metals and charms. > AVOID CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS ~ Perfume, soap, moisturizer, lotion, hand sanitizer or other chemicals can weaken the elastic, harm natural crystals and result in the discoloration and peeling of beads and gemstones. > AVOID HEAT EXPOSURE ~ Leaving your bracelet in sunlight or exposed to heat for an extended period of time may lead to elastic erosion and can cause beads and metal to discolor. Remove your bracelet while exercising.> ROLL IT ON AND OFF ~ Do not over-stretch your bracelet! It has been made with pre-stretched elastic. Over-stretching it beyond its capacity will cause it to break. To keep from overly stretching it to put it on and off, slide your fingers into the bracelet first, then gently roll the beads over your knuckles and then onto your wrist. Do the same when taking your bracelet off.> STORE SAFELY ~ Always store your jewelry safely in a soft pouch or secured in a box or drawer. Never wear your jewelry to bed and remove when sleeping.
