Description: Presented for your consideration, gorgeous Bennington Pottery Lot of 4 Pieces which includes (3) 1627 Blue Agate Saucers and a Blue Agate Banneton. Bennington Pottery Pottery making has been part of Vermont’s economics and history since the Revolutionary War. Former Revolutionary War soldier and captain John Norton founded Norton Pottery and commenced the production of redware utilising locally sourced clay. Sturdier and more durable than redware, stoneware supplanted redware in the early 1800’s. With increasing foreign competition the many Bennington, Vermont pottery businesses entered decline in the latter 1800’s. David Gil founded Bennington Pottery in 1948 wanting to resurrect American fine artisanal pottery. During the decades under his stewardship Gil steered Bennington Pottery to such a level as to became a popular tourist destination. Unfortunately, the business permanently shut its doors in 2023. Listing Description Offered is a group of Bennington Pottery including (3) 1628 Blue Agate saucers and (1) Blue Agate Banneton. The Banneton was originally designed as a bread baker but equally useful as a serving piece. With the addition of a small sauce bowl, the Banneton is perfect for crudités, crackers, chips, cheese or just about anything else. The Blue Agate glaze is absolutely stunning in its rich tonal cobalt blue in contrast to the buff/parchment base tone. Preowned yet in great condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. As these are preowned expect minor wear commensurate with use. Approximate measurements; Saucers — 6” in diameter x 1/2” in height. Banneton — 16” in overall length (tip of handle to outer edge) 12 3/4” (interior length sans handle) 3 1/4” in width x 1 3/4” in height. Smoke and pet-free home.
