Description: Band sampler, traditional, wood frame, hemstitching, Hardanger, over 1 stitchingFinished piece that is beautifully stitched. (see photos)Framed with no mat and no glass and is ready to hang.Most of this piece has been stitched over 1 thread with several techniques including drawn thread, pulled thread, Hardanger (cut work), and various surface embroidery stitches. This piece is quite amazing because there are so many different techniques used.The colors are also very pleasing. There's a lot to admire in this design. There is a satin stitch border of the overdyed thread all around the outside.The top has matching motifs of Hardanger kloster blocks with cutwork and woven bars with dove's eyes and two smaller kloster blocks with a fancier woven stitch on either side.The top center motif is a monogram (ROM) surrounded by purple and yellow flowers and the year "2004".Then there is a drawn thread band with a zig-zagged hemstitch followed by an upper case alphabet followed by a pulled thread band with cross stitched accents.Next follows the text -"'Every experience deeply felt in life needs to bepassed along - whether it be through words ormusic, chiseled in stone, painted with a brush orsewn with a needle - it is a way of reachingfor immortality.' Author unknown"The last band has a backstitched (or running stitch - cannot tell from the front) vine with flowers surrounding another pulled thread motif with wrapped bars bordered with half-circles of buttonhole. The back is covered with brown paper with bottom tabs. See photo. Threads include pearl cottons, cotton floss, and an overdyed cotton.Background is ecru linen.Colors are purple, yellow, aqua, peach, ecru, and the matching overdye.Surface embroidery stitches include cross, tent, satin, and backstitches. The stitching is heirloom quality.Frame measures 11-1/2"w x 16"h.Actual stitched piece measures 10"w x 14-1/2"h.Frame is light teal colored wood with a gold inside edge and a line of gold trim.
