Description: Aviation Merit Badge - Type H, Blue backed plastic backing issued sometime in early 1970's. The light-blue backed versions are quite hard to find and are considered a sub-type of Type H. Aviation merit badge began in 1911 with the white bi-plane design. In 1940 the design changed to a single-wing propeller plane. In 1952 the design changed to overhead view of a red jet with pilot in cockpit. In 1961 the design was altered to show a side view of red jet )No pilot).
