Description: This antique rosewood and mother-of-pearl sewing box from the early 19th century comes complete with 44 sewing implements/parts. The box measures 12 inches in length, 8.5 inches in width, and 4.5 inches in height, with a beautiful warm patina that adds to its charm. It has a silver presentation plaque on the top lid with the date 1850, but I believe the box actually dates earlier. The box opens to a gilt framed original mirror and sectioned velvet and foil covered cardboard removable layer that holds 44 different sewing implements/parts made of various materials, all found with the box and likely original or added by original owner. Of note: * Exceptionally carved needle holder, small pincushion with blue ribbon, small pincushion with faded red velvet top, large pincushion with torn blue silk cover, tape measure, thread barrels (including one dyed red/pink), acorn shaped thimble case, pin cushion clamp and winding clamp all made of bone. Possibly Chinese. * thread winders, awl punches and crochet hooks made of bone. * Fish shaped tatting shuttle made of bone. * 3 thimbles marked Sterling or 800, and a forth thimble unmarked but appears to be made of silver and rose gold. 2 thimbles are monogrammed, one of which has “A Stitch In Time Saves Nine” in raised letters around its base. * 2 etched floral silver ribbon threader tools marked sterling. * A small woven basket holding a tape measure suspended by a loop. * An olive wood carved needle holder. * A thread waxing product from France and a set of English made steel pins with purple glass tops. * A pair of steel bladed scissors with gilt handles. * A crochet covered cork. Requests to sell any of the implements separate from box will be ignored. This antique sewing box is a unique find with its original attributes and 44 sewing implements/parts. Remarkable that the various implements were not previously lost or removed. It is a perfect time capsule of a woman’s sewing pastime from a bygone age and as such is must-have for collectors. The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found. The item(s) may show wear, fading, scratches, repairs, restoration, original imperfections and/or damage from normal use. In particular, sewing box has prior restoration to veneer on its front and side on left, the box does not close securely, key hole has been filled in, damage to 3 of the 40 MOP inserts; two sewing implements have chips; 1 pincushion has damage to blue silk cover, chips to gilt work frame for mirror, mirror has scratching and chips, and the foil covered box insert and velvet covering have areas that show obvious wear. All observations are visible in the photos. Examine photos carefully as they are part of the description. Imperfections were factored into pricing. No returns or refunds.
