I have priced this item halfway between what I believe it to be worth and what a comparable 1880s Herend would be worth in the marketplace. Oriental cultures have a number of names for the hare/rabbit character: The Hare of Inaba, Tu’er Shen, Yuki Usagi, Moon Rabbit, etc. Below, I have added feedback from my good friend in Bangkok. Unless proven otherwise, I believe this predates 1858. I bought it at an estate sale here in Henderson, Kentucky, 15-20 years ago in a collection where I bought several fabulous pieces that only a special Collector would have owned. The gilding is thick and has very little wear considering how gilding often wears right off with much handling. This little bunny spent most of his life in a display cabinet. And, I have no idea what material the red eyes are made from. I hope it’s not some kind of temple ornament that’s worth millions of dollars! (LOL!) They really just look like cold-painted red enamel from after the firing. Please make a reasonable offer or use the buy it now feature. Not an expert but my guess is this was bought in Taiwan or a place that sold Taiwan made stuff. A bit too much gilding for one of the Chinese Dynasty things which were not made to sell but to use. Taiwan has always been a capitalistic place and the artisans knew that normal Westerners who knew nothing about Chinese antiques would be attracted to the gaudy representations. I see that here all over China town in Bangkok. Can show you some of the "off the charts" modern Chinese made temples here and they are way overboard as compared to ancient temples in China. Again, pretty sure the inscription is made up of those words (which my wife believes it might mean "eternity.") There is also a place in Fujian called Yong An but it would not produce anything like this.
