Description: Antique Mary Gregory Hand Painted Porcelain Vase – 10 inchesHere is another beautiful example from my mother’s collection of Mary Gregory enamel painted vases. This time, we are using a tall single porcelain vase painted with her characteristic white feathery enamel paint. The vase is 10 inches tall & about 4 inches at the opening. Mary Gregory was an American artist in Victorian times, known for her art glass paintings -- particular of Victorian children & paired male & female figures – usually set outside in nature. She is identifiable by her use of white enamel paint in feathered fashion that is fired onto glass. This Mary Gregory vase features – a young maiden dancing on clouds surrounded by floating flowers. On the reverse side, there is a large single lily like flower with a butterfly fluttering. Each side is feathered with tall white leaves. The edges of the vase were painted with white enameled dots. The feeling from this vase is romantic & portrays aristocratic life in that era. The color of the vase is turquoise. The painting is done in her signature enamel white with feathery strokes. The overall effect is light, airy, lovely – romantic & feminine. If you do not know the work of Mary Gregory, these lovely vases would be a wonderful entry into her romantic world! They are in excellent antique condition. · Object: Antique Mary Gregory hand blown & hand painted porcelain vase.· Color = Turquoise.· Origin: American· Material: White enamel paint mixed with glass; painted & fired on porcelain vase.· Period: 19th century.· Measurements: 10 inches tall by 4” opening.
