Description: This is a hand forged tansu KEY from the early 1800s of the mid Edo period (c. 1800). It fit the kind of lock seen in the next to last picture (not included) that fit a tansu similar to the one seen in the last picture (also not included)With exception of minor signs of past use, (minor oxidation, and an aged patina) this tansu key remains in overall very good condition. It measure 2" long with an outer shaft opening of 1/4" (5.5 x .7 cm). The last picture gives an example of the kind of tansu chest that this key was once used. We have an inventory of over 100 various size Japanese tansu locks and over 1,000 keys. We also have over 150 Edo and Meiji era tansu chests of all kinds. Let us know if you are in search of a specific style and size.Be forewarned that it is unlikely that this key will fit any tansu you now have unless you know the exact shaft size as well as teeth depth and width.
