Description: This antique hand-carved Native American Indian doll dates to the 1880s. It was purchased by my great grandparents while on a tour of the Western United States in the 1880s. My great-grandfather was a doctor originally from the Chicago, Illinois area and eventually moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I remember playing with the doll in my grandparent's house in the late 1950s. I was told that it was supposed to be either an Indian Chief or a Medicine Man. I don't remember anyone ever mentioning what Native American Tribe might have made the doll. The doll is about 13 1/2 inches tall. The doll was crafted no later than the mid 1880s when my great-grandparents travelled west. The doll is highly detailed and as I was told, depicts either a Native American Indian Chief or Medicine Man in full ceremonial dress. The head is carved and the Indian is wearing a carved headdress with carved feathers on both sides. The head, headdress, and side feathers are all painted. The doll has hair and a full beard. As a child I was told that this was real Buffalo Hair. The hands are also carved. The doll is wearing a coat and long pants. The doll is wearing beaded, deer skin moccasins on his feet. Some beads are missing and the deerskin of the right moccasin has started to disintegrate because of the age. I would be able to provide a provenance with names and dates to any buyer. The figurine is a must-have for collectors of Native American artifacts and enthusiasts of Western USA history. Its authentic design and attention to detail make it a unique addition to any collection. If purchased, the doll will be shipped insured by Priority Mail with tracking
