Description: Up for auction is an antique late 19th century linen folk art cross stitch textile sampler recently found at auction in the Lancaster County PA area. Condition issues include staining, fading, yellowing of linen, holes in matting, scratches of framing, no glass any longer be careful for glass shards, acidic matting. Small repair to strawberry area in upper left corner. Please see photos for details. One of the most interesting samplers we've seen with lovely strawberry vine border, blue alphabet on top with two cute young lady gardeners with rake and pitchfork. Very unusual find. Gold, blue, cream, faded red, faded green. Some loose threads, particularly in one bonnet. Linen very tight, possibly stretched with sewing, does not seem glued on. Opening ~16.5 x 18.75" with overall frame size 20.75 x 24.75". Glass size would be somewhere in between. Needs a new mat, recommend a color a shade darker than the linen to help the colors pop. Frames seems original to piece. Nice size. Best of luck in bidding. Please search our store for other vintage and antique wholesale collectibles.
