Description: ANTIQUE DOLLS DEPICTING PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST INDIAN LOT OF 3 RARE 3 PIECE SET ARTISAN DOLLS CIRCA 1910's THE IMPRESSIVE SET INCLUDES A MALE WITH GRAY LONG BRAIDED HAIR, HE WEARS A FELT SHAPED HAT WITH A COUPLE OF BEADS, FELT WOOL BLANKET ROBE, BEADED SUEDE MOCCASINS AND LOWER PANT LEG BEADED ACCENTS. HE MEASURES APPROX 10" IN. HIGH ( DOLL ONLY, MEASUREMENT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BASE STAND.) THE DOLL REMINDS ME OR RATHER LOOKS LIKE AN AGED *CHIEF WILLIAM SHELTON OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST NATIVE AMERICAN SNOHOMISH TRIBE IN TULALIP, WASHINGTON ( b.1869- d.1938 ). *THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY. AS FOR THE THE WOMEN, SHE HAS CLOTH HEAD SCARF, 2 LONG HAIR BRAIDINGS, BEADED NECKLACE, BEADED SUEDE MOCCASINS, FELT WOOL BLANKET WRAP OVER HER CALICO PATTERN CLOTH CLOTHING. SHE MEASURES APPROX 8.5" IN. HIGH. ( DOLL ONLY, MEASUREMENT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE BASE STAND.) LASTLY, IS THE INFANT THAT IS BUNDLED IN A FELT AND WOOD CRADLEBOARD THAT IS DECORATED ORNATELY WITH BEADED ACCENTS AND 4 BEADED DANGLES. CRADLEBOARD MEASURES APPROX 7" IN. LONG OR HIGH. THERE IS SMALL PIECE OF LIGHT BLUE FELT MISSING, THIS WEAR IS SEEN ON THE LIGHT BLUE PORTION OF FELT MATERIAL HEADCOVER ON RIGHT BACKSIDE OF INFANTS HEAD NEAR FLAT PART FRONT THAT RESTS ON CRADLEBOARD.( SEE PICS) ALL HAVE ANTIQUE LATE 19th CENTURY-EARLY 20TH C. GLASS MICRO BEADS. ALL 3 DOLLS HAVE DETAILED FACIAL FEATURES AND HAVE INTACT PIN EYES ( DUSTY). THE DOLL FAMILY REPRESENTS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST COAST SNOHOMISH COUTY AND OR PUGET SOUND REGION TRIBES AND THERE ARE MANY OTHER PNWC TRIBES I HAVE LISTED BELOW. THE MAN AND WOMEN ARE NAILED ON TO WOOD BASE STANDS THAT ARE ROUND CIRCLED STAMPED OLYMPIC INDIAN TRADING POST EDMONDS, WASH. INSIDE THE CIRCLE WHICH ALSO FEATURES A TEE PEE WITH SYMBOLS. THE BACKSIDE OF WOOD CRADLEBOARD ALSO HAS THE STAMP. THE FACES ARE EITHER CREPE OR PAPER TYPE MATERIAL OVER HAND MOLDED COMPOSITION MATERIAL THAT ARE THEN HAND PAINTED. THE CREPE OR TYPE PAPER MACHE GIVES A UNIQUE "WEATHERED" SKIN TEXTURE INDIVIDUALITY TO EACH OF THE ADULTS THAT I FIND TRULY FASCINATING. ( THESE ARE NOT PLASTIC FACED AND NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A MINNETONKA SKOOKUM TYPE INDIAN DOLL ) AS FOR THE LITTLE INFANT IT WOULD NOT DISPLAY A WEATHERED LOOK ON IT'S FACE SUCH AS THE ADULTS AS HE OR SHE IS JUST A BABY AND HAS NOT GATHERED ANY WISDOM AGE LINES YET. THERE IS A LOOSE BROKEN AND OR HANGING THIN LEATHER STRAP THAT IS ATTACHED TO CRADLEBOARD ( SEE PICS). THE BABY HAS SOFT MOHAIR WOOL HAIR. THE ADULTS HAVE REAL BRAIDED HORSEHAIR. THE DOLLS ARE GOOD AND IN NICELY PRESERVED CONDITION FOR THEIR AGE AND USE DISPLAY. HOWEVER, THEY ALL WILL SHOW SIGNS OF NORMAL WEAR FROM AGE. PLEASE NOTE: ALL DOLLS ARE DUSTY FROM AGE AND DISPLAY PRIOR TO MY OWNING THEM AND THEY DO HAVE THAT DUSTY AGED SMELL.
