This item was from the Stillwell family estate of Lewis Buckley Stillwell 1863-1941 and his wife Mary Elizabeth Thurston & Agnes Newhall Stillwell 1906-1957 & Richard W Stillwell 1899-1982 who were well known professors at Princeton University, in fact several generations of the Stillwell family included many who lectured at Princeton. I recently acquired many fine items from the Stillwell family estate at Plymouth MA. The "Do Right and Fear No Man" medal was created to raise funds for French relief after World War I. The medal's design was inspired by George Washington's dress sword. Obverse: The words "Do Right and Fear No Man" appear around the crest and eagle. The proverb "Do right and fear no man" means that when you have a clear conscience, you have little to fear from other people. The greatest threat to you is the damage you can cause yourself by defiling your conscience.
