Description: Antique 1918 Panoramic Photo Juneau Home Guard Alaska Boardwalk 10" x 19" Taken June 4th, 1918 - looks like these folks were dressed in their "Sunday Best" (although June 4th that year was a Tuesday). Check out the wooden practice "Drill" Rifles most of the men had! Photo is taken from the Juneau Boardwalk. Those are some of the Douglas Island peaks in the background. The photo was made by Winter & Pond Co, Juneau Alaska. According to Wikipedia, "Winter and Pond was a photography studio partnership between Lloyd Valentine Winter (1866–1945) and Edwin Percy Pond (1872–1943) in Alaska...according to the Alaska State Libraries their work provides "a unique reflection of the state in the early 20th century." " Name on the back of the photo is Norman Floyd Gilkey - possibly a member of the unit. (Search online resulted in a Norman Floyd Gilkey who was born in Seattle in 1879 and died in Los Angeles in 1954 - making him about the right age to be in the photo.) About my store: I live in a smoke-free home. That said, I source my items for sale primarily from thrift stores as well as estate & garage sales. So, their environment is sometimes unknown. If I walk into an estate sale in which I can tell was a smoking household, I will leave. Additionally, if I detect an odor on an item at a thrift store, I will not purchase. When feasible, I will pack items with used packaging (boxes, bubble wrap, etc). This cuts down on shipping-related expenses (so I can charge you less) and cuts down on waste. For many items, I am open to negotiating offers. While I try to be as accurate as possible when describing the condition of an item, everyone's view is somewhat subjective. So, Please examine the photos carefully as they are usually the best indication of an item's condition.
