Description: Beautiful, atmospheric and captivating painting in the style of Albert Pinkham Ryder.Oil on board.Approx. 6" X 6". PLEASE NOTE: As has been said many times, Albert Pinkham Ryder is one of the most forged artists in history. His paintings have such a mystery and lore within the scope of American paintings, as does his own personal story. Ryder paintings are very rare and if this is by him, it is a major find. Now, for the facts to date concerning this work: 1. I sent photos of it to the curator of American art at a major US museum and received a very lengthy response, showing interest in the painting and noting that the condition is quite similar to other examples they have in their collection, etc...The curator also sent the photos to a college student who at the time was doing her thesis on Ryder. Ryder was known for mixing fast drying paints with slow drying paints, varnish, etc.....and often his paintings often show condition issues related to his unorthodox techniques. 2. I also sent photos of this painting to a famous art dealer who once again did not "dismiss" it, but indicated that he felt it could very well be by him. Like the curator, they had not seen it in person, but were going by photos only. 3. I have shown it to numerous other people who are very knowledgeable and the two artists who come to mind are Albert Pinkham Ryder and Ralph Blakelock. I feel it is most like Ryder and for the most part, this is the feedback I have received. 4. During the period this painting has been listed on ebay, I was contacted by a Ryder expert who wrote a thesis about him and this expert said he has seen many forgeries, but he does believe this painting is by Ryder. Note the sky in the background and what appears to be a lone figure with a beautiful black dog, perhaps walking along a beach or shoreline or gathering something before a storm approaches. Would love to know your opinion of this painting and if any art collectors out there have impressions they would like to share. My ebay page is titled: "art discoveries now", so in this case, I am listing it as a discovery for you to decide, as it is not signed. Often Ryder did not sign his paintings. Ryders that have sold at auction have brought prices in the $70,000.00-$100,000.00+ range. So, I am listing this painting partially with hopes of receiving your feedback and impressions.
