Description: From a local estate auction: a fascinating history of Japan that was published in 1915. It was written by British Army Captain F. Brinkley with collaboration from Baron Kikuchi of the Imperial University at Kyoto, and it covers 'the earliest times' to the end of the Meiji Era. Apparently it is regarded as an authoritative history and still quoted today. The breadth of information is astonishing, and it is fully indexed. I have tried to include enough to give you an idea of the wide scope of this book with the photos. I was surprised to see a photo of Admiral Tojo on a later page - echoes of WWII to come. This is a hardbound copy, without its dust jacket; the covers are dark green with Japanese characters on the front as shown. The black leather spine is mostly gone, also shown, but the binding is still tight. The volume is intact but there is some staining/soiling/wrinkling on the pages, as shown in photos. All 784 pages are present and legible. This is a good reading/consulting copy of a fascinating book.
