Description: Mormons were introduced to this bush by Native Americans. Indigenous peoples have brewed this highly valued tea for centuries. They found it has many health benefits. The stems, not leaves, are added to boiling water to make an invigorating drink. The stems look like twigs once they are picked. This bush grows wild in abundance in the Mojave High Desert Navidensis is a greyish green bush while Viridis is a bright green bush.Native Americans have drunk the tea to alleviate symptoms of Asthma, colds, hay fever, urinary tract problems, headache, backache, and Menstrual cramps. I find it energizing. I harvest Ephedra Viridis by hand selecting the youngest shoots because they make the most robust tea. It does not matter what time of day or night Ephedra is picked as long as the youngest shoots are selected. After picking the green stems I air dry them for a minimum of two weeks. After drying, stems weigh 25% to 30% less. I weigh the tea I ship after it is dehydrated. Fresh stems brew 25% to 30% less tea then dried stems. Fresh stems may also mold. Dried stems should be lightly rinsed in cold water and then added to boiling water. Then they should simmer covered for at least 20 minutes. The longer it steeps, the more robust the infusion becomes. But, It still has a mild taste. Instructions are included with the tea twigs. The brewed infusion may be enjoyed Hot Or Ice Cold. Lemon and or sweetener may be added. *** This is just a note to tell you your order may contain blooms and tiny seeds along with twigs. They can be boiled along with the tea or eaten un cooked.
