Description: THE WOOD BEYOND THE WORLDTHE WELL AT THE WORLD'S END (Volumes I & II)THE SUNDERING FLOODby William Morris_________________ Mass market paperbacks; Size Approx. 4 1/4 X 7.Published by Ballantine Books; 1974, 1970, 1973, 1973.Details: This listing is for four fantasy books, all by William Morris. They are actually three novels, but The Well at the World's End has two volumes."If you like MacDonald, Lewis, and Tolkien, give Morris a shot. Read him for the sheer beauty of the language alone. Morris was a master with language and his prose could make anyone fall in love with English." The Wood Beyond the World: "A groundbreaking fantasy novel, The Wood Beyond the World tells the story of a young man, Golden Walter, who finds himself in a strange and frightening world after being abandoned by his wife and lost at sea. The novel takes the form of Walter’s quest for the visionary Maid that he sees at the beginning of his journey, and takes him from his failed marriage through temptation to emotional fulfillment. Set in Morris’s imaginative recreation of a medieval world, the novel is full of vivid imagery and surprising emotional realism." The Well at the World's End, volumes 1 & 2: "The world is very richly imagined in this book. Unlike worldbuilders today, Morris doesn't give us a name of the world or a map or five appendices. He simply says 'once upon a time in the kingdom of Upmeads' and we're off. The nice thing about this is that the world unfolds before us exactly as it does for Ralph, our main character. We are discovering it just the same as he is and it is always mysterious. There's plenty of danger and excitement along the way, and lots of tyrants and Kings and armies. It's also a pretty good story, with a classic knight going on a quest with fair maidens and a magical object at the center. The women in this story are also not entirely powerless like in lots of old fantasy...and somehow every single woman is exceedingly fair, but the two main female characters in the story actually do helpful things." The Sundering Flood: "In his final novel, Morris draws upon Icelandic lore to tell a tale of two lovers, Osberne and Elfhild, separated by a broad river. When Elfhild vanishes from the riverbank, Osberne takes up his magical sword Boardcleaver and begins a desperate search. He soon finds himself battling a tyrannical king in the service of rebel knight Sir Godrick of Longshaw, but Osberne can never forget the quest for his lost love. A captivating blend of chivalric romance and wizardry."A fine addition for your bookshelf!Condition: A name in the front of each, otherwise with only light wear and a little age-toning to the pages they are all in very good condition with solid bindings and clean pages. Note: The letter/number at the end of the title line for this listing is just an inventory code for locating the book.ShippingFree Domestic Economy Shipping!Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list!About Us:Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.Delivery: We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
