Description: 29 Ounce Monster FLINT CHERT Stone Perfect for Tomahawk Spearhead Axe Head Knapping, FREE SHIPPING For sale is a single, stone made of central Texas chert / flint. Though irregularly shaped, it is already shaped like a tomahawk or axe head. Due to its weight, size and shape, it would also make a good hammer stone. Large stones such as this are hard to find.Chert / flint stone such as this makes an excellent fire starter when struck with carbon steel or when scraped against a ferrocerium rod (see video). Use the scraps from any knapping project for fire starting.Total weight is approximately 29.19 ounces. At its longest point near the bottom, the stone measures approximately 4" inches wide at its fattest. From top to bottom it measures approximately 5" inches long. It is approximately 1 3/4" inches thick at its thickest. This chert / flint rock has not been heat-treated or processed in any way. This specimen seems to be unusually pure chert. But because this is a natural product, it will likely contain fissures, inclusions or fractures. Some are visible on the surface (see photos). Chert and Jasper are the general name for several types of stone that are extremely hard and fracture into pieces with sharp edges. Flint is usually chert that is grey.
