Description: For sale: 2 Golden Rhinohorn Banana trees, grows to 15 plus feet tall. The deck in the second photo is 10 feet tall for size reference. All photos taken 6/8/2024. No waiting until late in the year for that tropical look. Hardy to at least zone 6, (North Carolina mountains) that I know of for sure. First 2 photos are of a group of adult plants and a bloom. Last photo is of the approximate size of plants shipped, about 15-18" tall. Most leaves will be trimmed for shipping. No combined shipping on these larger than usually offered sized plants. Notes on this plant:While these plant do produce edible fruit, the growing season is not long enough for them to ripen unless you live in zone 9 or 10. Maybe zone 8. But if you like a fast growing plant for that tropical look outdoors, this is a great plant. I have found some previous years growth will survive up the stalk several feet if it does not get below 5 degrees. You can see last year's brown growth on several stalks in the 2nd photo. Below that temperature, the plant will die back to the ground. But as you can tell by the photos, plants already look great by the first week in June. As with all bananas, once bloomed, that stalk will not come back but side shoots will. Give this plant room as it will spread 6" every year. 8 years of growth in the second photo, controlled on the grass side. Of course as I read in the Winston-Salem Journal probably a couple of decades ago, you can always do like one grower and have a 6'x6'x15' cold frame built and put a heater in the bottom so you can overwinter your banana bloom.
