Allison was able to join the field, but Elliott lost 16 laps repairing an oil cooler. Neil Bonnett would beat Richard Petty by .8 seconds for the first victory for the #75 RahMoc team. The top 5 was rounded out by Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt. The premier of Stroker Ace would take place during the 600 Festival. The movie, starring Burt Reynolds and Lonnie Anderson, was partially filmed at Charlotte in 1982. The premier of the movie was held at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte. The Charlie Daniels Band performed a pre-premiere concert. Spoiler alert, Stroker would win the race and get the girl.
