Description: Up for sale, a 1978 Greco EG700 in perfect working order, upgraded with a DiMarzio Super Distortion bridge pickup and complete with the original hardshell case. An upper-tiered Greco model produced at the Fujigen factory, the EG700 takes a page from Gibson's late 1970s (Norlin era) playbook. Tonewoods include a two-piece maple top over a sandwich mahogany body, and a three-piece maple neck capped with an ebony fretboard. At 10lbs 8oz, this Greco dishes out plenty of natural sustain and sonic authority, qualities that are translated faithfully through the pair of humbuckers. The original Maxon-made PAF-style neck pickup is warm and rich, with excellent high end detail and bite, metering at 7.5k ohms. The bridge pickup has been replaced with a high-output DiMarzio Super Distortion; a bright, chimey and sonorous pickup when clean that opens up into a wide, howling beast when driven, measuring 13.5k ohms. Between these two pickups, a remarkably wide spectrum of tones are available from sweet, ringing cleans to aggressive, dirty Les Paul goodness. This Greco has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .935" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard features fret-edge binding, pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the original medium jumbo frets. The fretwire has good meat and well-rounded crowns, with light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-10. This Greco plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, carved from bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the original “Standard” truss rod cover is present, along with an inlaid pearloid Greco logo and set of Greco-branded, Grover Rotomatic-style tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. The B78-prefix serial number translates to February of '78. All of the electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector and independent Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The original full-size Japanese pots date to 1977. Hardware includes the Nashville-style Tune-o-Matic bridge and corresponding stopbar tailpiece, both of which have clean chrome plating. Plastics comprise cream pickup rings and switch tip/surround, as well as the original quartet of gold bonnet-style knobs, all in excellent condition. The Cherry Sunburst gloss finish is rich and saturated, highlighting the grain of the maple cap. Cosmetic wear includes a patch of buckle rash central to the lower bout, as well as a number of minor chips and dings across the back. Wear on the top is more restrained, with a couple dings of note on the lower bout edge. The gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth and clean. The original black tolex hardshell case is included.
