Description: Magazine is in excellent condition or better. 50 pages THE VERSATILE MODEL T In use as a motorized platform, a Model T Ford serves a line crew as they repair a trolley cable on a remarkably empty Windsor, Ontario, boulevard in 1922. Canadian hydroelectric power and trolley fares were obviously more available and cheaper than gasoline and automobiles or Courtesy of Archives. Ford Motor Company of Canada this same street would have been glutted with motor ve- hicles. A close scrutiny of the trestled framework the men are standing on discloses a rope and pulley method of telescoping" the affair to various heights. Strapping the headlamp brackets to the axle prevents high-altitude sway. FORD LIFE magazine 1972 is published from offices in Stockton, California 95201. Of course, this scene was taken June 23, 1931, when Petris Cleaners lined the attractive commercial rigs up behind the manager's Tudor, ready to join a Ford Parade through downtown Long Beach. Off the assembly line at $560 FOB Detroit the "drop-floor" was so named because the floor actually dropped behind the axle to hub cap level and the panel below the door hinged downward for "walk in" ease of loading. No rear bumper was avail- able on these units and that is the prime reason for their early departure from the streets as they damaged easily. ----------- 3 ----------- ena ramento ockton Volume 2 FORD LIFE -Contents for May-June 1972- Number 3 1932 Open-Air-Salon 6 Portland Swap Meet 49 The Ingenious Model T Owner 13 ******* A Bushel in Every Car! 14 A Fordson Story 25 Recent Ford News 10 On Location With Grey 27 Letters to the Editor 12 Vintage Fords in TV Commercial 31 Grease Pit Poet 12 Born Collector 33 Ford Collectibles 26 The 1936 Ford 3-Window Coupe Long Beach Revisited 36 Ford People 44 41 Classified Ads 50 Next Issue Saga of a Lincoln Salesman... 1946 Ford "Bubble Top" The D.T.&I., Mr. Ford's Railroad ----------- 4 ----------- FORD EMPLOYE BADGES are a study in them- selves, the collection of which takes up the past time of some Ford employes and enthusiasts alike. This fabulous collection belongs to Ken Schwartz, Assistant Curator of Transportation Collections at the Henry Ford Museum. The badges were accumulated over the years at the Ford Dearborn Personnel and Paymaster's office where several sets were kept. Mr. Schwartz will con- 26 Photo by Carl Malotska, Henry Ford Museum tinue adding to his collection and plans to eventually deposit it with the Ford Archives at the Museum. He reports that his interest in this facet of Fordabilia was kindled when he found Henry Ford II's war-time Rouge Plant identification badge at a garage sale last summer. That find was reported in the Ford Collectible section of Volume One Number Seven, Ford Life. FORD LIFE for March-April 1972 ----------- 5 ----------- IN THE EARLY DAYS of Mori Nelson's automobilia collection, a local Santa Rosa photographer took the photo shown at the left. Those were the days when the new back- yard shop seemed to have no end of space and everything could be accounted for. A recent tour of the shop disclosed the typical problem of the collector. Now all of the rafters are full of sidelights, horns and what- not completely obscuring his license plate collection. The two Model T's have long since departed and the floor is stacked "up to your armpits" in more things, eliminating all possibilities of getting a comparison shot for this article. Meanwhile, his Fords are stashed here and there and he's busily en- gaged (above) with caching things in the attic above his home. Bemoans Mori, "I've just got to find a place with a big barn on it!" 35 ----------- 6 ----------- 40 1936 Ford V-8 Specifications ENGINE 8-cylinder, 90 degree V-type, L-head.
