Strike leaves ships idled in the Mississippi River --- The eyes of the shipping world focused on Philadelphia Tuesday night in hopes settlement of a dispute there could send most longshoremen from Maine to Texas back to work. International Longshoremen's Association president Thomas W. Gleason said he would consider a request to resume operations at most strike-bound ports if the Philadelphia negotiations are successful. --- This was view from the air Tuesday as ships lay at anchor in the Mississippi River below the Algiers Point awaiting the end of the dock strike. Many of these ships probably will moor dockside at the invitation of the Dock Board, which has suspended dock charges for the duration of the strike. This was done to reduce hazards to other moving ships. --- PortPhoto measures 10 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated 02-03-1965.
