Description: 1953 DeSoto Firedome V8. Runs, drives and stops but you will want to get some work done before you take it on a long cruise. Has power steering! I have owned this DeSoto for about 8 years. I drove it regularly in my first years of ownership and only occasionally for the last 2 years or so. I start it up and let it get warm every month regardless if I drive it or not. I only use ethanol-free fuel. It's a very comfortable cruiser at 50+ MPH - see video. It will eventually need new brakes and you should address a transmission that sometimes delays or slips shifts when car is warmed up (from research, this may be a need for a new kick down relay). Gas gauge and radio not working. Tires are old and should be replaced before a long drive. Seatbelts were installed by prior owner (no seatbelts were standard with this car when new). Surface rust is present, mostly on lower fenders, with holes in some outer rockers (see photo) which is not a structural issue with these cars. Also rusted through metal on inside of door jamb on driver side rear wheel well (see photo). Chrome on grill is pitted but still fairly bright. Surface rust spots were lightly touched up. You'll see most photos after the touchup where the paint looks good. That surface rust has since bled through the paint again. See last photo for a more accurate view of current paint condition. Rear seat bottom is non-matching (it's from a '52 DeSoto) - see photo. Visor headliner is in good shape but there is a patched hole under the driver visor from mice that were present before I bought the car. Glass all around is good except driver side rear which has a crack - see photo. I have the ORIGIAL invoice - see 2 photos! Car was bought April 24, 1953. This car has the fluid drive (or "tip-toe") transmission. If you are not familiar with this type of transmission, you use the clutch only once to start driving, and then lift your foot off the gas to change gears. Unless you live very close to Kelton, PA (about an hour south of Lancaster) I suggest you haul the car, since the work needed that I detailed above should be done before a long trip. Shipping and cost is the buyer's responsibility. I am happy to take more photos or do a live video call for serious buyers. Clear title is in my name ready to be transferred to new owner. Wire transfer or cash only. Car and title will not leave my possession until funds clear. Any questions, just ask. Thanks.
