Description: An Anthology edited by Langston Hughes and Arna Bontempswhich includes poems on “the Negro’s experience in the Western world, Negro countriesaround the Caribbean…selections of representative poems without respect eitherto racial implications in the verses or to the identity of the poets.” “…Theaim was to assemble selections which would be at once representative of theNegro’s own poetic expression and of the poetry he inspired others to write.”Condition: Text is complete in this scarce book that is worth restoring. The binding at the front cover is in poor condition and separating from the block of pages, the binding holding all of the pages together is still in great condition. There are pen marks on the inside cover and front page. Some staining in the lower center of the first few pages that clears up by the table of contents but resurges on some pages throughout (visible when the book is closed on the bottom, see photos). There are minimal markings throughout the pages, some in pencil, some in pen, I tried to include the majority of the markings in the photos. Staining and fading of front cover.
