Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1937 Press Photo Farmer used a corn picker to harvest his corn in Evansville, Id Picking corn by machinery. A mechanical corn picker in action on a farm near Evansville, Indiana. Invented in 1925 by John Powell of Coldwater, Ohio, the present models pick two rows at a time; the corn is forced between two rollers that squeeze out the ear, causing it to fall upon an elevator that carries it to a wagon. It can pick about 800 bushels a day, where the average human picker could do only 60. The sale of these pickers took a sudden jump this year; about 3000 were sold and as many more ordered that could not be delivered. Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo Is dated 1937.
