Description: Offered is a Vintage ~ Black & White Print of a photograph ~ of Union Pacific's M-10,000 Passenger Streamliner Exhibition Tour stopping at Celilo Falls, Oregon at the fishing location of a few WA & OR Tribes that fished for Salmon & Steelhead for some 5,000 years at least. The overall framed picture is 22-3/8" X 18-3/8", and the actual print is 16-1/4" X 10-1/2" before matting. It has wood stained frame and glass, nicely done. The M-10,000 was built and delivered on Feb. 12, 1934 in Pullman, Illinois at a cost of $230,997, painted Armour Yellow and Leaf Brown to Union Pacific Railroad. It was on exhibition at Union Station in Washington D.C. Feb. 15,1934 and on March 2, 1934 began touring the United States covering 12,625 miles on 14 railroads visiting 65 cities. It reached a top speed of 110 miler per hour on this tour! This image shows the M-10,000 clearly stopped briefly at the Celilo Falls Indian Fishing Grounds on the Columbia River, Oregon Side traveling Westward toward The Dalles, OR. I say briefly because there is no town there even to this day, just the tribal property and village. You can see the cascade type falls and fishing platforms in the background before The Dalles Dam was constructed and in 1957 flooding those fishing grounds. The city of The Dalles is located just 12 miles downriver or West of Celilo Falls. This image is rather unique in that I was told the Warm Springs Indian Chief and Son and a few tribal members were giving a salmon to the engineer of the train trying to pass it up to an open window rather high up off the ground! The Yakima; Nez Perce; Warm Springs & Umatilla Tribes all fished in this location. This item ships well packed for transport; insured & cost depends on your location. Thanks for looking!
