Description: Up for sale is an exceptionally rare Fr 1530m 1928-E Red Seal $5 Mule with the late finished micro size back plate 637. Unlike the more common Mules during the changeover from micro to macro size plates, this plate was put into service long after the rest of the micro plates were retired. Only plates 629 and 637 are responsible for these late serial Mules. Much of the service life of this plate was used to print Silver Certificates. A much smaller number of United States Notes and Federal Reserve Notes saw this back plate. Accordingly, the Schwartz-Lindquist book values a Blue Seal with Plate 637 at about $100 and this much rarer Red Seal at $400 in VF. This is the only Red Seal with the 637 back that I have ever had. This note grades Very Fine in my opinion. It still has crispness and bold colors. It has a light paper toning towards the top. Please check scans and judge grade for yourself. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
