Aside from being a legend of the frontier, Carson was also a fur trapper, wilderness guide, Indian agent, and U.S. Army officer in the Civil War. His memoirs were published in his lifetime, with his input, but he thought that his biographer, Colonel Dewitt C. Peters, had "laid it on a leetle too thick" in the final edition. This volume is comprised of the original manuscript of Carson's life story as previously dictated to Peters, and edited by American magazine illustrator Blanche Grant (1874-1948). Grant lived in Taos, New Mexico, as did Carson. Includes photos and illustrations of Taos and Carson, as well as some acquaintances and descendants. FORN-ABE-MSB-0622-Shelf-590-am379
