Description: I have here for sale a book entitled SOUTH The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition 1914-1917 by Sir Ernest Shackleton C V O. It is the New Impression of the First Edition - First Ed published in November 1919 and this New Impression was published in December of 1919. It has a colour frontispiece portrait of the ship plus 87 b/w plates throughout the book. No map.Bound in navy cloth hardboards with a silver image of his ship to the front board with silver title lettering. Cloth is quite worn and spine covering has been replaced at some point with new buckram. Cloth is lifting from edges in places and there is wear to the corners. Both joints split. Creases to cloth on the rear board. The plate showing Shackleton, The Leader, is torn, but without loss. A few of the plates are detached and have creased edges. One of the detached plates is partly missing. Some light foxing to some pages but otherwise generally clean.
