Containing a fascinating history of the Popes and the papal court, art, architecture, patronage, theater, the population, feasts, ceremonies, popular entertainments, customs and traditions, superstitions, and so forth. Collated, complete with copious illustrations throughout of notable Renaissance figures, art and photographic plates of notable buildings and scenes in the city. This text is written in French throughout. CONDITION In a quarter crushed morocco binding with marbled paper over boards. Externally slightly bumped and rubbed to extremities. Small sections of rubbing to joints. Small section to rubbing of front board. Slight rubbing to leather of tail of spines and the raised bands. Tipped in library plate to front pastedown. Library stamp to front pastedown. Evidence of removal of tipped in plate to front free-endpaper. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with scattered spotting to fore edge of the occasional page. Scattered spotting to first and last few pages. Tidemark to lower extremity of illustrated title page. Library stamp to title page. Heavy creasing to page 333/4.
