Additional Information Established nine years before this depiction, the Choctaw Nation had experienced more significant economic development with the expansion of railroad networks throughout the Territory. Published my chromolithographer, R.L. McAlpine, the distinctive aesthetic and unique coloring of this illustration makes it an authentic piece of American cartographical history. The Choctaw had struggled to develop an independent nation and by 1900 had established counties and land ownership throughout the so-called Indian Territories. Coal mining had become an essential economic driver for the region, and mines and drilling operations are noted on the map illustrating their significance. The early 20th century saw Oklahoma and the Choctaw Nation in a period of significant transformation and growth, and the region has yet to experience the oil discovery in 1910 that would drive a booming economy and establish many local communities. This map was also published some seven years before Oklahoma would achieve statehood, becoming the forty-sixth state in the United States. The state had experienced a population boom in 1889 when the region was opened up for expansion into the Indian Territory, and eager settlers established cattle farms and ranches through the characteristic plains of the area. Large meatpacking firms in Chicago leased vast grazing lands, and cattle were shipped north via the extensive networks of rail lines and stations. While the state was poised for its economic boom, settlers flocked to the region, and established cities like Oklahoma City were becoming prosperous and allowing for growth in the region. Our ready-to-hang wall art are printed and framed in the USA using the highest quality materials with professional craftsmanship. This beautiful artwork is a perfect addition to your themed decor. Historic prints look great in the home, study or office. They also make an unforgettable gift.
