Description: This Bible or keepsake box was found in Virginia 25+ years ago. It has dovetailed construction with dovetailed bracket feet. The bottom is attached with square nails that appear to have been hand made. One of these nails may be seen in photo 8. The box is made of walnut with tiger maple inlay on the top and sides. The inlaid 1847 date is bracketed by flower petals. Tiger maple bands are inlaid below the lid and around the bottom edge. It retains the original key and working lock that is accessed through a tiger maple inlaid escutcheon. The box measures 18" L x 10 3/8" W x 7 3/8" H. It has been refinished sometime in its life and there is an age split in the bottom board which has resulted in the loss seen in photos 8 and 9. Otherwise, there are no apologies for this box.
