William Wirt was an American author and statesman credited with turning the position of Attorney General into one of influence, serving the longest in the Attorney General position in history. He served as the prosecutor for Aaron Burr's trial for treason, and went on to be the Attorney General for twelve years, under both James Monroe and John Quincy Adams. After leaving office, he continued to practice law, representing the Cherokee in the Cherokee Nation v. Georgia case. Patrick Henry was an American Revolutionary leader, initiating the intercolonial committee of correspondence with Thomas Jefferson and Richard Henry Lee. He worked as a lawyer in the years following the American Revolution.
