Published in 1807, this is a very scarce pamphlet written by Bristol-based solicitor C.H. Walker. As it states in the title, it is an appeal to the public on the poor conduct of former mayor David Evans, Esq. and John Noble and James Harvey, Esqrs., Aldermen of Bristol. These individuals apparently imprisoned the author and fined him £100, though according to the author he was wrongfully convicted. It was printed and published locally at George Routh in Bristol, and it states that any proceeds earned from this pamphlet would be donated to the Bristol Infirmary. Containing the bookplate of Harold E. Matthews to the interior of the front wrap. Also containing two letters of correspondence written during the 1950s, in which Bristol-based solicitors from Tucketts, Glyde & Kerslake discuss the pamphlet in detail and ultimately agree with the author, C.H. Walker, on his accusations of libel. This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. CONDITION Bound in marbled paper wraps. Externally, some wear to the wraps and bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the interior of the front wrap. Volume is firmly bound. A few handling marks and spots to the pages, which are otherwise generally clean.
