The obverse design depicts each of the twelve animals of the lunar cycle as a large star encircling the new moon. Throughout the day, a two-hour window of potency is allotted to each animal, and the dragon, which places fifth clockwise, is at its most powerful between the hours of 7 and 9 a.m. Its zenith is marked with Chinese characters that translate as 8 a.m. A brilliant red CertiPAMP assay card and accompanying envelope presents each annual ingot as the ideal New Year gift!
