Description: Sabal sp. Tamaulipas is originally from Tamaulipas Mexico. It is thought to be a hybrid between Sabal minor and Sabal mexicana but without DNA testing nobody really knows. It is a large grower that really appreciates moisture and heat. They have very large costapalmate leaves with filaments. It is the earliest sabal species to flower in spring and has one of the largest fruit. It ideal conditions they can grow 8 to 9 feet tall and about as wide. Another distinctive characteristic is that the trunk will slightly creep sideways. These have been hardy here to 4 f with only minor leaf spotting. I would rate these as zone 7b, (possibly 7a with protection) being less hardy than a minor similar to a brazoria in cold tolerance.
